S. Daukantas Courtyard

The first courtyard we enter via the narrow passage-way from the M.K.Sarbievius Courtyard is named after a Vilnius University graduate, the historian S.Daukantas. The second and third storeys of the west end of this courtyard's south building are covered with a renaissance attic, decorated with small double arches supported by high pilasters. The north and west buildings are of a later period. On the wall of the north building is a bas-relief of S.Daukantas, created by sculptor R.Kazlauskas. As the inscription "Domus Philologiae" proclaims, this is the domain of philologists.
