Vilnius University library is proud to present a brand new exhibtion O tempora! O mores! (Oh, the times! Oh, the customs!). This exhibition displays various documents Vilnius University Library, published in the last 500 years. O tempora! Human behaviour and habits, customs and traditions have always been subject to never-ending studies and research. What factors determine our behaviour in one or another situation, and why? How has human behaviour changed during the centuries and where the roots of our traditions can be found? Vilnius University Library offers a possibility to find an answer to these and many other intriguing questions within the exhibition O tempora! O mores!. This exhibition contains books, prints and manuscripts from between the 16th and the 20th century that present beliefs and practices of faith upheld by various nations (prayers, religious offerings, veneration of holy images and miraculous healing), customs related to the marriage and daily life (songs, clothing, games, fighting between spouses, rituals of the first wedding night, the history of a chastity belt). A special attention has been paid to undesirable behaviour and habits such as debauchery, improper upbringing and immorality, as well as various ways of punishment administered in different countries of the world for the crimes. The themes of the exhibition are highly relevant to the present day as well.
