Library information resources

VU Library information resources include printed, electronic and digital collections held in the Library, as well as content of the subscribed databases, VU electronic thesis and dissertations. Search for items is performed via the Virtual Library or Digital Cards Catalogue.

Collections of resources are divided into three groups:

  1. Collection of Scholarly and Cultural Heritage
  • Manuscripts Collection
  • Old and Rare Books Collection
  • Collection of Prints and Drawings
  • Printings of the 19th–first half of the 20th century. The collection consists of books and periodicals in Lithuanian and foreign languages. The most valuable part of the collection includes books and periodicals of the Vilnius Imperial University (1803–1832) in foreign languages, publications on Lithuanian studies printed between 1919 and 1945.
  1. Printings of the second half of the 20th–21st century

The collection covers printings from the second half of the 20th century (since 1946) on various subjects that are kept in the closed stacks: books, journals, newspapers, small prints in Lithuanian and other languages. Materials donated by eminent persons and the state’s institutions to VU Library are the most valuable part of the collection.

High demand books are placed in the open stacks that are grouped according to the fields of sciences. Low demand books are kept in the closed stacks. Electronic resources (articles of journals, books) are available via VU computer network.
