Piccolomini, A. De sphaera libri quatuor...; ...Compendium de cognoscendis stellis fixis. Basel, 1568.

An eminent Italian writer, philosopher, astronomer, Patros (Greece) bishop Alessandro Piccolomini´s (1508–1578) treatise Four books on the Sphere, which may be considered the first epitome of all astronomic knowledge of Antique and Renaissance times containing a catalogue of different calculation and measurement devices and description of their use. An addition to this treatise is an atlas On fixed stars – one of the first printed stars atlases. Both of these works, frequently published together, were very popular in Europe: until the end of XVI c. even 14 editions were published.
