What is research data management?
Research data management refers to the creation, preservation and sharing of both research data and their metadata, thus securing the quality and reliability of data with regard to confidentiality and data protection issues throughout the entire data lifecycle.
Research data lifecycle covers the entire process of scientific research starting with research planning, selection of research data and ending with delivery of the data for long-term preservation after the completion of the research.

Many research funding organisations and programmes (for example, Horizon Europe) have specific research data management requirements and oblige the recipients of their funding to make the research data resulting from these projects publicly available, unless there are legal or contractual obligations that contradict data sharing.
