Šiauliai Academy Information Centre of Vilnius University Library (ŠAIC of VU Library) is the largest university library in North Lithuania that meets the needs of both the university community and those living in North Lithuania wanting to engage in lifelong learning and acquire information literacy skills.
The bright and modern premises of VU Šiauliai Academy and the Information Centre that is situated there have several structural highlights – the first floor lobby (entry hall) and the atrium that goes up through four floors of the building. The interior dominated by while and light grey brings books to focus, whereas the bustle that takes places in the premises gives them life. All spaces are accessible to people with special needs; the centre has special equipment for visually impaired people and people with dyslexia.
Šiauliai Academy Information Centre has reading rooms and study spaces with computer access, individual and group work rooms, Media Room, recreation zones and Hourly Childcare Room.
The centre organises guided tours and educational activities related to the items that are kept at the Information Centre, such as unique documents and objects from Dr Jonas Šliūpas Archive, the largest book in Lithuania Aukuras Salduvei (Altar for Salduvė), and the Cents Room containing more than 150 thousand coins.
After the reconstruction (the project BIBLIOREG), the centre was opened in December 2008. The architects of the project were Virginija Bakšienė, Donaldas Trainauskas, and Darius Baliukevičius.
