istekliai 1The Library has in its holdings over 5 million items. It has accumulated one of the richest collections of old documents in Lithuania—the largest collections of incunabula and paleotypes, as well as the old Lithuanian books (including unique items such as the first printed Lithuanian book, Martynas Mažvydas’ “Catechism”, Baltramiejus Vilentas’ “Enchiridion”, and others) in the country. The Manuscripts Division holds over 325,000 documents written in various languages from the 13th to the 21st centuries. The collections also include a large collection of graphic works, a significant part of which consists of old graphics from the 16th to the 19th centuries. Some of the old documents have been digitised and are freely available on Vilnius University Library’s Digital Collections webpage.
