As the Government of the Republic of Lithuania begins relaxing lockdown rules, VU Library lifts some restrictions that were imposed to protect users and prevent the spread of COVID-19, as well. From 1 June the majority of reading rooms will reopen and the book borrowing and returning as well as copying services will return. 

VU Library's SCIC

On working days from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. all library visitors are welcome to use at the SCIC:

  • Anteroom
  • Leisure Reading Room
  • Physical Sciences Reading Room
  • Technology Reading Room
  • Life Sciences Reading Room

Users can also book spaces for individual work at the SCIC Block B.

Copying services will be available at the SCIC Leisure Reading Room, 3rd floor of B block using self-service machines.

  

Central VU Library

On working days from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. all library visitors are welcome to use at the Central Library:

  • Czesław Miłosz Reading Room
  • Philology Reading Room
  • Professors’ Reading Room
  • Historical Sources Reading Room
  • Lithuanian Studies Reading Room
  • Philosophy Reading Room
  • Manuscripts Reading Room
  • Rare Books Reading Room
  • Study spaces at the White Hall

Users can also book spaces for individual work at the Central Library.

Copying services will be available at the Copying Room’s self-service machines at the Central Library.

 

Reading rooms of the Faculties

Reading rooms of the faculties will work on working days from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Book Borrowing

Book requests are performed as usual.

To place a request for items from the closed reading rooms, users have to approach librarians at the Information Desk or the reading room. Requested items will be fetched to the open reading rooms.

 

Book Return

Book returns are performed as usual.

Please note that the returned books will be kept in quarantine, therefore confirmation of the return will appear in your account only after a few days.

If you have the possibility to return books that are not needed to you any more, we kindly ask you to do that as other users might need them. If you don’t have the possibility to do so, do not worry about that. Fines will not be incurred and you will be able to return books in the first week of the new academic year.

When returning books with self-service machines, please keep a distance (at least one-metre) from others for safety, observe the hygiene rules established for the quarantine period.

 

The Library kindly asks you to stay safe and note that:

  • Obligatory hand hygiene and disinfection should be observed while staying in the library.
  • It is forbidden to rearrange furniture in the reading rooms and other spaces of the library as they are arranged in a way that helps to observe a two-meter distance from others visitors and/or their groups.
