Hourly Childcare Room was opened on 22 November 2012 as an outcome of the research project Institutional Transformation for Effecting Gender Equality in Research carried out by Šiauliai University Gender Studies Centre and the faculties of Technology and Mathematics and Informatics.
Pre-school children (from 3 to 6 years of age) can stay at Hourly Childcare Room for as long as three hours. The room is a space where, through playing various games, children’s creative abilities, their imagination, linguistic and communicational skills, and their need to get to know the world around them are being developed while at the same time encouraging and enhancing their autonomy and independence.
Childcare services are provided by the library staff, who have qualifications in pedagogy, social work, or a degree in educology.
The service is provided free of charge to members of VU community that are searching for information resources or attend research or other events that take place in the Information Centre.
For external users the service is provided for a nominal fee – €3/hour.
