Dievų 2Exhibition of the Museum of Occupation and Freedom Fights under the Genocide and Resistance Research Centre of Lithuania “The Forest of Gods: a Group of 46 Lithuanian Intellectuals in the Stutthof Concentration Camp” will be on display at the Scholarly Communication and Information Centre of Vilnius University Library (Saulėtekio av. 5) from 9 May until 29 May 2023.

The exhibition is dedicated to the memory of a group of 46 Lithuanian intellectuals who were arrested by the Gestapo on 16-17 March 1943 and sent to the Stutthof Concentration Camp. Priest Alfonsas Lipniūnas, who even in the inhuman conditions nearly every day celebrated Mass, provided sacraments, and listened to confessions, was among the arrested. During the evacuation of the concentration camp that took place from 25 January to 11 March of 1945, he contracted spotted typhus and on 28 March 1945 died of exhaustion in Puck hospital. Lipniūnas was buried in Puck cemetery on 31 March 1945. On 12 September 1989 the remains of the priest were reburied in the Panevėžys Christ the King Cathedral cemetery. In 2006, the Diocese of Panevėžys has initiated the beatification of priest Alfonsas Lipniūnas.
