Rugsejo 1 ENOur sincere congratulations to students and the entire Vilnius University community on the occasion of 1 September. We wish you a smooth and productive New Academic Year full of discoveries.

Alongside this, we would like to present some events that will take place in September and will not only help to get to know the Library better, but also offer a good opportunity for leisure and quality time as at the end of September the Library will hold Short Films Event.

Between 4 and 13 September / intended for freshers

Short presentations and tours will be held at the SCIC branch of VU Library. During these events, the most important information that is vital for every new user of the Library services will be introduced to students. Our staff will give you tips on how not to get lost in the abundance of documents and in the reading rooms, what kind of help Subject Librarians can provide, and what to do in the IT Laboratory. We will invite students to walk around the Library spaces, to go to the storage rooms and to even see the containers transporting books on rails.

Each department has a different time slot, so check here to find out when there will be a presentation for freshers from your department: https://www.studentauk.vu.lt/en/main/

14 and 15 September / intended for freshers

Guided tours will be organised for students in the Central Palace of VU Library, which is still working in authentic 16th-century buildings. Together with all the buildings and courtyards of the University, these spaces form an architectural ensemble of the Old Town of Vilnius, which is visited daily by the members of the university community as well as by tourists from all over the world. VU Library visitors will not remain indifferent to the interiors of the historic halls, their decorations, and extraordinary stories about the life of the Jesuits who founded the University centuries ago.

During the tours, the guides will invite the freshers to the impressive Lelewel Reading Room, Smuglewicz Hall, and the White Hall. Once upon a time, the latter functioned as an Astronomical Observatory. Having climbed the tower located in this hall, it will be possible to admire the views of the city.

The guided tours will take place on 14 and 15 September.
