This year, Scholarly Communication and Information Centre (SCIC), a division of Vilnius University Library in Saulėtekis beloved by students, is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Since the very opening, it has become a place where one can have a great and productive time, deepen knowledge, look for answers to important questions or simply have fun with friends. Therefore, on this occasion, the Library is inviting its visitors for a friendly meeting, a short films event on 26 September at 7 PM. The program titled Short Films. Youngster’s Diaries includes five Lithuanian movies that reveal various challenges, internal strengths, fears and desires of a young man as well as the strive for independence and the search for a close one.

Full program description:

Short Films. Youngster’s Diaries. There are times when the entire world becomes a miserable place marked by worries of an adult, while one’s heart is still full of youthful maximalism. When one’s expectations no longer meet the reality, yet one’s dreams are still there. When the dearest ones cause pain, yet it is too difficult to step back. When one’s loneliness seems to become unbearable, a casual meeting with a stranger helps one to open up. Five films in the program reveal various challenges, internal strengths, fears and desires of a young man as well as the strive for independence and the search for a close one.

Through Gloom

A talkative taxi driver roams the nightly streets. An apathetic girl enters his car. The two do not seem to connect, until she asks to make a stop with the intent to cause harm.

 

 


 Parking Lot

Director Jorė Janavičiūtė \ Fiction \ Lithuania \ 2021 \ 13 min.

Martyna and Kamilė are young women in their mid-twenties. They used to be best friends during their studies. About half a year ago, Martyna decided to vanish from Kamilė’s life. But she did not tell her friend why. One day when Martyna is on her way to meet her co-workers, she is passing through the parking lot of a shopping center in a rush. She meets Kamilė, who wants to find out the reasons for Martyna’s disappearance.

The short film “Parking Lot” examines the theme of “emotional hygiene” through the perspective of friendship.

Director Gabrielė Urbonaitė \ Fiction \ Lithuania \ 2016 \ 20 min.

Ieva, 22, comes back to her hometown Vilnius, Lithuania, after four years in Hollywood. During her first twelve hours at home, Ieva sees her mom and friends who project their false expectations on her, picturing Ieva as a successful actress and America as the land of opportunity. Ieva only reveals her doubts about her future to her ex-boyfriend Tadas. As they walk down the streets of Vilnius, Ieva notices how much her city has changed. The cinema where Ieva fell in love with movies is now closed. Instead, a supermarket is about to be built. In order to reconnect with the people and the city Ieva has to accept the fact that nothing stays the same.


 Becoming Animal

Justė volunteers at an electronic music festival in the middle of the woods. Everything seems to be nice and fun until an angry gang disrupts the event. Becoming their target and realising that there is no one to defend her or to tame the gang, Justė decides to take action herself.

 

 


Techno, Mama

Director Saulius Baradinskas \ Fiction \ Lithuania \ 2021 \ 18 min.

Nikita loves to listen techno music and dreams to go to Berlin and visit the famous club “Berghain”. His mother Irena does not know about his son’s dreams and soon enough their mutual expectations will clash.
