Penktadienio vaizdas 2Images surround us every day and night, they appear in a daylight and in the depths of the unconscious. Since ancient times, people create images depicting events, emotions and sensations that cannot be expressed through words. Sometimes a life episode or some piece of art sticks in our mind for a long time, while in other times we encounter an image we have already seen as if for the first time.

Starting from 15 December, every other Friday, the library presents visitors with a new exhibit in the showcase titled “A Friday Image” which will be located in the VU Library’s Small Exhibition XXI–XXII. Reflecting on an image as a narrative appealing to senses, displayed images will invite us to stop and switch to another reality, to artistic flight of fantasy which might be unknown or familiar to a viewer.

More than 95 thousand pieces of art, mostly created by distinguished Lithuanian artists, are kept in the Vilnius University Library holdings. The every-other-Friday changing exhibition will allow visitors to see pieces of art that were created by various artists from different periods and that are currently safeguarded in the Cabinet of Graphic Arts.

Currently the exhibition shows sketches for sculptures: Ballad, Three Kings, Barbora by Vladas Vildžiūnas (1932-2013)

Location: VU Library, Small Exhibition XXI–XXII (2nd floor), Universiteto str. 3
