Jove 2The VU Library subscribes to a new electronic resource, i. e. the Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE) video journal. This database is relevant for students, teachers, and researchers in life sciences, medicine, chemistry, physics, psychology, earth sciences, and engineering.

The video platform hosts over 18,000 videos where experts from various fields conduct scientific research, laboratory experiments, and demonstrate the course of clinical procedures. The electronic video journal is distinctive because it combines practice with theory: visual material is supplemented with texts, i. e. articles. Additionally, the video journal is indexed in the Web of Science and PubMed databases.

JoVE content ranges from the application of elementary methods and their theoretical explanations to more complex scientific research. Therefore, this resource is intended not only for students but also for research scientists.

JoVE access includes:

  • JoVE Journal: peer-reviewed journal with articles published in video and text format.
  • JoVE Encyclopedia of Experiments: video encyclopaedia of advanced research experiments.
  • JoVE Science Education: a library of videos that illustrate research methods, concept application, and real-world examples.
  • JoVE Lab Manual: curriculum-focused video resources for commonly taught introductory labs with step-by-step instructions.
  • JoVE Core: video textbooks that bring introductory concepts and methods to life.
  • JoVE Book: digital book that explains scientific concepts and practices through video demonstrations, supplemented with in-depth text explanations and practice quizzes.

The JoVE database is accessible within the VU network, but creating an account allows usage even without connecting to the VU network. When registering an account, it is necessary to use a VU email address.
