“Google” is marking its tenth anniversary in the Baltic states by adding Vilnius to its popular global virtual art platform, “Google Arts & Culture”. The platform presents Vilnius’ culture and heritage to the whole world through a digital collection created in collaboration with 11 city museums and cultural institutions, including Vilnius University Library.
The portal dedicated to Vilnius, "Visit Vilnius", guides visitors through the old and new parts of the city, presenting the city’s history, nature, panoramas, festivals, food, and other things related to Vilnius starting from graffiti and ending with the oldest books.
Among the displayed items, visitors will find digital stories created at Vilnius University Library, books kept in the Library, and the Library’s spaces themselves. The "Visit Vilnius" project gallery features over 2,000 exhibits from the collections of all institutions participating in the project. One of them – a drawing of a perpetual-motion machine from a 17th century book created by engraver Jan Aleksander Gorczyn – was filmed in a video clip presenting the entire collection dedicated to the city of Vilnius.
