We would like to congratulate the students, the lecturers and the entire University community on 1 September—the start of the new academic year! We wish you meaningful and inspiring studies, the determination to face and overcome new challenges, and curiosity and joy in discovering new knowledge, ideas, and opportunities.
We are delighted to welcome back the students to Vilnius University Library, amongst whom we will also be welcoming a large group of freshers who are stepping through the University’s doors for the very first time—our first-year students. We invite the new members of the University community to get to know the Library by taking part in events organised especially for them, where they will get information about the Library’s extensive resources, facilities and the services.
Sleepless Library: Discover Spaces and Resources for Studies
On 28 August–6 September, there will be presentations for students during which members of the Library staff will give the most significant information for new users of Library services. Students will get to know the Library services, how to search for resources necessary for studies, the Library spaces designated for studies and leisure, consultations and training provided by the Library that help to prepare research papers.

Guided tour: Among Books and Stars: Discover the Old Vilnius University Library
On 3 September, the Library offers guided tours around the central Vilnius University Library, founded in 1570, which has survived to this day and continues to operate in the premises, where it was founded many centuries ago. During the tours, guides will invite first-year students to take a stroll through the Library’s impressive Joachim Lelewel, Franciszek Smuglewicz, and White halls. The latter once served as an astronomical observatory. Climbing the tower in this hall will offer visitors the chance to admire the view of the Old Town that opens up from there.
Time: 3 September at 11 am, 2 pm and 3 pm. Duration: 1 hour. Advance registration required
Networking Fair
On 4 September, a festival for freshers’ integration Ad Astra will take place in courtyards of the University’s old campus. Members of the Library staff will participate in the Contact Fair, a part of the festival, that will continue from 4.00 pm to 6.00 pm (the Grand courtyard). Library representatives will answer all questions related to the Library services, various events held by the Library and will give recommendations on how to choose the cosiest and most suitable study space in the Library.
