The exhibition dedicated to the 450 years of Jesuit mission in Lithuania spans the history of Jesuit missionaries and activities from the 16th to the 18th century.

jezuitaiJesuit martyrs’ lives and deaths were put into stories, which became an example and inspiration for future missionaries – visitors of the exhibition will have the opportunity to see illustrated biography collections of those famed martyrs. Exquisitely illustrated Jesuit explorations of the Far East will also be on display, including Athanasius Kircher’s, also known as ‘the last man who knew everything’, book China Illustrata. The exhibition also includes unique 17th–18th century engravings that depict the many directions of Jesuit missions in the world and the structure of Jesuit order, as well as the seal and signature of Jurgis Radvila (Jerzy Radziwiłł), the first cardinal of Lithuania – all documents open to exploration.

The exhibition will be on display in the White Hall of Vilnius University Library from 30 October to 31 December (Universiteto g. 3, 4th floor). The opening event will be held on 30 October at 4 p.m. in the White Hall.
