VU Library offers you a possibility to make a request for the literature that is necessary for your studies and/or research. In ProQuest Ebook Central, a popular e-book database, you can both read books acquired by VU Library and place new orders. Nearly two million e-books published by prestigious scholarly publishers are at your disposal. Information on how to order an e-book can be found in the instruction (Instruction_Book-Ordering_copy.pdf). VU Library will pay the costs for the books you will select for borrowing or acquisition for the Library. We will respond to your inquiry within 1 working day.
You may always check whether VU Library has already got the required book by searching the Virtual Library. It displays all available print and electronic resources. If you cannot find the publication you need, another easy way to order it is through the "Offer a Book" form. After filling in the form by placing all necessary information about the publication and writing a short justification for the acquisition, your order will reach the Library staff. After thorough evaluation of the order, the staff will make suggestions in which format (print or electronic) they can buy the publication, and how long it will take to receive it. When acquiring new books, the Library goes by several rules:
- Preference is given to scholarly and study literature, as well as significant and high-quality fiction. Leisure literature for recreation and entertainment is not acquired.
- Needed/recommended books must be commercially available.
- Acquisition of print publications in foreign languages may last around 4 weeks.
The ProQuest Ebook Central database is available only on the VU network. You can also connect to the VU network from your home computer using a VPN service.
The “Offer a Book” form is accessible from any computer.
