0311 webOn 11 March we celebrate the 34th anniversary of the re-establishment of Lithuania’s independence. In 1990, on that day, the Supreme Council of the Republic of Lithuania signed The Act of the Re-Establishment of the State of Lithuania, which legally restored the independence of the State of Lithuania, which is based on the 16 February Act of Independence of Lithuania.

One of the symbols of the Lithuanian state is a statue “Liberty” that was created by sculptor Juozas Zikaras in 1921 and later placed next to the War Museum in Kaunas, while the Presidential Palace in Vilnius also has a copy of it.

This symbol of Lithuania’s freedom underwent many alterations, was moved and destroyed, and restored again, while memories about the statue were preserved in family archives, memoirs and stories.

When celebrating the re-establishment of Lithuania’s independence, let us remember how much courage, determination and willingness to act in unity several generations of the citizens of our country had to show so that we could live in a free country.

Let 11 March, the day of the victory of our state, not only give joy to our hearts but also inspire us for everyday work and creativity for the sake of our beloved country.
