The aim of Open Data Days is to promote the knowledge about open data, encourage the use of data focusing on the importance of open science and aiming to involve the public into creation of scientific knowledge as well as the use of data for the advancement of the society.
This year Open Data Day has been marked on 2nd of March. It is an international annual event supported by Open Knowledge Foundation and other organizations such as Hivos, Mapbox, Frictionless Data for Reproducible Research, Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the United Kingdom.
Open data are the data that can be freely used and disseminated. This concept includes scientific research data, which are made publicly available.
In aiming to implement the concept of open science and encourage opening of scientific research data, Vilnius University Library in the year 2018 had initiated and hosted DuoDi Data Days in the three faculties of Vilnius University. DuoDi Data Days were attended by 42 researchers and scholars. In the Rector’s Office Meeting on 28 February 2019, while marking Open Data Days, acknowledgements have been given to employees of the Life Sciences Centre, the Faculty of Physics and the Faculty of Chemistry and Geosciences for helping to organize the first DuoDi Data Days events at Vilnius University.
