A gift worthy of praise: most recently, the Cyrillic book collection of Vilnius University Library was supplemented by Doctor of the Church St John Chrysostom’s work Homilies on Genesis (Volume 1).
The folio, entirely in Cyrillic script, was printed in Moscow, in 1769. Homilies were translated from Greek language by a Ukrainian theologian and archimandrite Avraamiy Florinskiy, who, between 1757 and 1758, was the prefect of Kiev Theological Academy and served as the head of Vilnius Orthodox Monastery of the Holy Spirit for four years.
St John Chrysostom’s book was gifted by Dovydas Mozūras, an alumnus of Vilnius University. According to the donor, this book came into his hands from the personal library of physician Aleksandras Mačius (1924-2016).
