Please note that in reliance of the decision on necessary conditions for the organization of library work to stop the further spread of COVID-19 of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania, the order for providing services at Vilnius University Library has been changed.  

The library will provide services in a non-contact way.

The library’s reading rooms will be closed for users. There will be no possibility to use study spaces at the library. Update: From 15 April VU Library opens its reading rooms (registration)

If you have ever used the computers in the Library and stored some necessary documents in your VU user profile, don’t worry – there is no need to come to the Library in person in order to retrieve them. You can access them from home. Read more

The library will only provide borrowing services for the members of Vilnius University community These services will be provided in a non-contact way. 

Members of VU community are also given the opportunity to order a digital copy of a part of publication. More ->

 

Books can be borrowed:

  • From the Central Library and the Scholarly Communication and Information Centre (SCIC) on Mondays–Fridays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Reading rooms of faculties and centres: Mondays–Fridays at times indicated here.
  • Šiauliai Academy Information Centre: Mondays–Saturdays at times indicated here
  • Books can be borrowed only when requested in advance. 

How to order books:

It will take up to 3 days to carry out your request. You will be informed about the status of your request via e-mail. This can also be done by checking your personal account in Virtual Library.

Please note that information on the requested books will be sent to an e-mail account provided by VU.

  • Requested books can be taken from the lockers at the Central Library, at Information Desk in the Scholarly Communication and Information Centre and in faculty reading rooms.
  • The requested books will be kept for three days after information about the completion of the request has been sent.

Book return:

You can return borrowed books only at the place where they were borrowed. Books can be returned using self-service or in designated places at:

  • The Central Library and the Scholarly Communication and Information Centre (SCIC) on Mondays–Fridays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Reading rooms of faculties and centres:  Mondays–Fridays at times indicated here.
  • Šiauliai Academy Information Centre: Mondays–Saturdays at times indicated here

Users who aren’t in Vilnius may return borrowed books after the quarantine. During the quarantine fines will not be incurred. For all issues related to clearance procedure, please approach your subject librarian.

 

You are welcome to use VU Library’s e-resources. If you have any questions, please contact the subject librarian of your faculty.

IMPORTANT! 

  • When coming to take or return books, please observe no less than a two-metre distance between yourself and other users of the Library.
  • It is obligatory to wear face masks in the premises of the Library the entire time.
  • Next to book borrowing locations you will find a disinfection standWe kindly ask to disinfect hands when you enter the Library. 
  • Please observe coughing and sneezing etiquette. 
  • Users experiencing the symptoms of upper respiratory tract diseases (fever, cough, difficulty breathing and others) are not allowed in the Library.
